Gyeongbokgung: Palace of Shining Happiness

Gyeongbokgung has two more names: Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace. This is a royal palace which was built in the end of fourteenth century and is now under reconstruction. The complex includes many beautiful buildings and magnificent parks. Now people are trying to restore the beauty of the complex which was ruined several times.

King Taejo built the palace. This was the founder of the Joseon Dynasty. In fact, this was a really remarkable personality who is worth being considered in some dissertation order and thesis online. As far as his palace is concerned it was almost completely ruined during Japanese invasions in the end of the sixteenth century. In 1867 the complex was reconstructed. It was really gorgeous. The beauty and the greatness of the palace were restored. However, when in 1895 Empress Daewongun was assassinated the palace was abandoned. In the early twentieth century the complex was ruined one more time. The Japanese government was responsible for the loss of one of the most beautiful manmade places of the world. Fortunately, now the complex is under reconstruction again. Of course, there is so much to do, but even now it is possible to acknowledge the real greatness of the place. I do hope that we will be able to restore the complex because I think it is a must of us to correct our ancestors’ mistakes and give to our descendants the opportunity to know their past.
